Kathmandu: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has returned to Nepal following a six-day official visit to Spain to participate in the Fourth International Conference on Financing for Development. Foreign Secretary Amrit Rai described the visit, which began on Ashad 14 at the invitation of the UN Secretary-General, as both successful and fruitful.

During the conference, PM Oli called on the international community to take concrete steps to implement the commitments made regarding development financing and to push forward a practical action plan to bridge the global financing gap.

Highlighting Nepal’s efforts, Oli announced that the country had joined the Head of State-level campaign to mobilize financial resources for drinking water and sanitation. He emphasized that clean drinking water is enshrined as a fundamental right in Nepal’s constitution and reaffirmed his government’s commitment to ensure universal access to water and sanitation services.

While in Spain, PM Oli also held bilateral meetings with global and regional leaders, including King Felipe II of Spain and Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez. He met with heads of state, representatives from UN agencies, financial and trade institutions, and members of civil society and the private sector, seeking broader cooperation in infrastructure development, public health, and climate resilience.

According to Secretary Rai, the visit helped elevate Nepal’s profile on global development platforms and opened new avenues for international support and partnerships.
